Staff attended the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce banquet on May 21, 2022. b. The Muleshoe Water Park opened on May 31, 2022, with 389 admissions for the first day. c. The Youth Fishing Day took place at Lake Muleshoe on Saturday, June 4th. We had 92 fishermen registered. d. Movie in the Park will be June 16th at the new city park. We will be showing “Encanto”. The movie will start at dusk. e. The Muleshoe Public Library began their Summer Reading Program on June 1st. f. Staff and council have completed the required cyber security training for another year. g. The TML Region III meeting will be on June 23, 2022, at the Spirit Ranch in Lubbock at 5:30pm. h. Remembering our good friend Barbara Mae Blackman, December 15, 1925 – May 26, 2022, with our archival Muleshoe pioneer interview from 2013. Graveside service for Barbara Mae Blackman will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11a.m. at the Muleshoe Memorial Park with Dr. Stacy Conner and Curtis Shelburne officiating. Barbara Mae Blackman’s grandparents Samuel Elijah and Laura Pearl Williamson Morris moved to the Muleshoe area in 1917 along with their oldest son Arnold, Barbara’s father. Grace Johnston Morris, her mother, came to Muleshoe in 1920 from Petrolia, Texas, as a bride. You can hear her full obituary in the Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, Muletrain News.
See the Muleshoe Independent School District end of the year faculty/staff awards program held on May 27, 2021, at the Kerry Moore Auditorium with MISD Superintendent Dr. R.L. Richards as the Master of Ceremonies. MISD retirees were honored including Peggy Peterson, Debra Jennings, Valinda Miller, Gretchen Ogerly, Shane Berry, Carey Sudduth, Dana Rasco and Dani Heathington. It was announced that the soon to be built indoor athletic facility will be named the “Heathington Center” in honor of Dani Heathington. Staff Member of the Year was awarded to Sylvia Dominguez, Elementary Teacher of the Year to Samantha Anderson and Secondary Teacher of the Year to Jodi Davis.
