One year after the Little Bear Fire around Ruidoso, Alto and Lake Bonita, New Mexico. See video riding up the gondola to the top of Ski Apache to the summit of Sierra Blanca. Around 255 homes, 10 other structures and 44,330 acres were burned, including 8,500 acres of private land were burned in the Little Bear Fire. The cost of fighting the fire and dealing with the effects of the aftermath, including flooding from loss of vegetation, is estimated at a quarter billion dollars. Interview with Tish Slemmons Bishop, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. T.M. Slemmons of Muleshoe. Dr. Slemmons moved to Muleshoe in 1954 from Amherst and opened the West Plains Hospital now known as the Muleshoe Area Medical Center. Interview was conducted with Tish on July 25, 2013.
